12/21/2023 0 Comments Tales of arise release dateIt has its strong and weaker moments but I find it's main issue is simply rushing parts of the story and causing them to have less of an impact. It feels like a light rpg version of that and I wish there were more dlc and post game fights in the game. I liked that Arise did let you target different parts of the monster bosses which did remind of me of God Eater and Monster Hunter. Arise is admittedly not perfect at this as bosses are usually just tanks that barely stagger but I found this to be a common issue with most Tales games. I play a lot of monster hunter and even tried God Eater so I'm used to boss fights taking longer. Now something I personally don't mind is the length of battles in Arise. Arise just does it a whole lot better with the arte spam being a reward for playing the game well and not just repeatedly pressing the same 3 buttons. This is probably a weird comparison but I'd relate Arise's artes to mobile action games like honkai, genshin, or punishing gray raven. It has Berseria's versatility while cleaning it up more. F*cking finally!Ĭombat is snappy, allows you to chain dual and burst artes almost freely by late game. Berseria had the geoboard which was honestly probably the best mobility option until Arise came in and added proper sprinting and jumping. Zestiria fumbled with having rather big areas and a chance based sprint system that sucked. Xillia 2 circumvented this with a decent sprint mechanic. Xillia 1 was the worst offender with copy pasted areas and slow movement in climbing/crawling/moving around those areas. Graces F had smaller areas so it wasn't a big deal. Something tales games seemed to struggle with since switching from the completely open overworlds to connected areas and dungeons was incorporating a way to traverse them. Main draw was the combat, graphics, and QoL with traversing the overworld. But if the next game takes the good things from Arise and improves on its flaws, we’ll have a stellar next entry in the series. It’s okay to not enjoy it or decide it’s not for you. They outweighed the obvious flaws with the storytelling.Īll Tales games have flaws-Arise’s just stick out a lot more than some others. But, I wasn’t playing the game because I found the villains compelling I played it because I likes the party, the combat, the environments, and the music. Had they been better developed, I think several of the issues with the story as a whole could be rectified. They are not strong enough or relevant enough to make a lasting impact on players. The game’s biggest weakness, imo, is the villains. I found it engaged me enough that I wanted to know what happened next, even if it was on the predictable side. Not every game NEEDS to be the pinnacle of storytelling, and it’s completely fine for a game to have a very mediocre story that’s got some fun gameplay and character interactions to support it. There’s nothing particularly wrong with it, but it’s also not as engaging as previous titles. I’d play the game again purely to see then grow together. Again, there absolutely are flaws with them (lack of non-story related skits being a primary issue, for example) but overall again, they work together very well. We cannot downplay how their built-in relationships between them all also appeal to a lot of people open-ended or unconfirmed ships are fine, but a lot of people enjoyed that the romances weren’t secondary to the rest of the story. They have a good party dynamic amongst themselves, plenty of character growth, and can be pretty funny together. I would also say that the cast of characters are very strong too. For most people, the flaws don’t make the game unplayable, even if they don’t prefer it. There are absolutely some flaws with the new system, but overall it’s extremely fun to play and appeals to both new players and old alike. The gameplay is very enjoyable-it’s fast-paced and dynamic, the artes are well animated and there’s a neat variety of combat styles and weapons to choose from. As someone who has played many of the Tales games prior to Arise (Phantasia, Symphonia, Abyss, Graces F, Zestiria, Berseria, and part of Vesperia), Arise may not be the strongest game in terms of storyline, but it’s has brought a very fresh new look to the series.
